In 2010 Ipswich will turn 150 years old and to help celebrate this monumental event Ipswich City Council is calling for a group of Ipswich residents to act as city ambassadors during the anniversary year.
Cr Heather Morrow, Chairman of the Council Community Engagement Committee explains “Council would like to invite 150 residents to become Ipswich 150 Ambassadors as part of the city’s sesquicentennial celebrations during 2010.”
“The City of Ipswich will celebrate its 150th anniversary of being proclaimed a municipality on March 3, 2010,” Cr Morrow said.
Planning is already well underway for a number of key Council events as well as a wide range of initiatives to encourage Ipswich residents to participate in celebrations during 2010.
“To help council promote Ipswich 150 activities to the wider community, a group of 150 community members will be selected to ensure a cross-section of our entire community is represented.” explained Cr Morrow.
Each Councillor will nominate an equal number of people from their division and then the Mayor and the Councillors will appoint the ambassadors. The successfully nominated Ambassadors will then be announced during the Ipswich Day community breakfast celebration on 3 March 2010 where each Ambassador will be presented with a certificate and an Ipswich 150 Ambassador name badge.
